Quotes , Quizzes and Drama - Making Learning Fun

One of the most important things in answering questions posed in exams is to be able to memorize and use quotes from the book to talk about literary craft.

Having students memorize quotes and understand them, especially for the language is very important. Here are two resources to make use of:

#1: youtube video

This is a short video that explains and gives an analysis on important quotes from The Tempest

#2: kahoot! quiz about quotes used and literary devices.

A good revision quiz on quotes and understanding of literary techniques and context.

Watching videos and doing quizzes seems a bit more engaging in helping students remember quotes rather than just rote-memorizing them. However, when one adds in the element of drama, that's when it would really sink in.

Drama is a good outlet for students with ADD who need to be out of their seats once in a while. Drama includes actions which provide sensory feedback and leads to integration of knowledge being learned (Zull, 2002). By incorporating and learning drama, my aim is to provide resources to my students so as to make use of the skills and goals of the Australian curriculum, not just to pass the HSC, but also to help them in future situations.

Drama  (Hands On) Activity:
In this activity, I would have ready some props and materials and are free to let their creativity run wild.  The game will run akin to Charades. Students get into pairs and each pair will be given a quote to act out. They will be given 15 minutes to prepare (alarm clock!). The other pairs will have to guess what the quote is in relation to. The group that guesses the most quote wins.
