This blog, though is an assignment for a start, but would continue to (hopefully) be a resource bank for myself as I step into the role as a high school teacher in the near future. Each resource that I've chosen to use will explain why it is best suited to this specific class and topic.
I'm very aware that as I'm researching for resources, it is fundamentally a part of a teacher's job to ensure that whatever they teach is made accessible to every student and learner under their care. It is also just as well that this assignment would show the importance of teaching responsibly.
Holtrop (1996) reminds us that "responsible teachers must painstakingly examine the hundreds of books, software, and audiovisual titles available, choosing responsibly and then setting up responsible guidelines and support structures for maximizing student learning with the chosen materials." (p. 7)
I've chosen the topic on Refugees as a relevant Stage 4 topic for use in a class that has a variety of needs. The example class has several specified areas of need that I have to always take into consideration while choosing resources. It might seem a little far-fetched, but, that's the reality of Australian classrooms today.
Here is an example of the students with needs in this classroom:
Gordon Tomlinson: Aspergers Syndrome
